(I use a bit of contrasting yarn) This is an original design by me, Anna Wilson 2016.

You may do whatever you like with your completed Member Berry keyring, you can 'member pop culture trivia, help your friends 'member,  or even give them as a gift!  I only ask that you please not claim this pattern as your own, I worked hard to design my Member Berry Keychain :)

Shrunken Head * crochet pattern

It's no secret that I love autumn or that I love Halloween so it should come as no surprise that I would have a cute spooky pattern available this month!

6mm safety eyes - you could just stitch eyes with black or even use an E Bead

Small amt of fiberfill

F hook

Needle (to weave in ends and attach features)

Abbreviations

* Mr: magic ring
* ch : chain
* sl st : slip stitch
* sc : single crochet
* sc2tog: decrease
*: repeat directions between **
* f.o. : finish off

Notes

All terms American.   If pattern reads "sc, sc2tog, 2sc" it would be read as, " single crochet, single crochet 2 stitches together, 2 single crochet in the next stitch", directions are to be repeated to end of row/round unless otherwise noted.  As with any pattern, be sure to read through once before beginning, and don't forget to mark your rounds! (I use a bit of contrasting yarn) This is an original design by me, Anna Wilson 2016.

You may do whatever you like with your completed Shrunken Head, you can sell them, hang them from a rear view mirror, a keychain or even give it as a gift!  I only ask that you please not claim this pattern as your own, I worked hard to design my Shrunken Head :)

Directions

Starting with color you chose for the head

1: Mr 6 (6)

2: 2sc (12)

3: sc, 2sc (18)

4: sc2, 2sc (24)

5-11: sc (24)

12: * sc, sc2tog* x2, sc12, * sc2tog, sc* x2 (20)

13: sc2tog x2, sc, sc2tog x5, sc, sc2tog x2 (11) begin stuffing the head

14: sc, sc2tog x2, sc (mark this as center front) , sc2tog x2, sc (7)

15-16: sc (7) f.o. cinch neck closed with end and weave in ends

Lips: x2
with head color

Ch6
1: sl st in 2nd ch from hook and across (5) f.o. leave a long end to attach to face

Eyes: x2
With white

1: mr4 (4)

2: sc (4) f.o. leave a long end for attaching to head

Center front st marked

Finishing:

A bunch of pieces

Begin by lining up lips toward the bottom of the head, st them closely together, only st through begin ch end of work so the lips "stand up"

Attach the eyes a cpl rows above the lips

The safety eyes will be a snug fit, I only pushed through the outer edge of rings, you do not need any stuffing for the eyes. You can embroider or attach beads if you prefer.

Finishing the facial features: I use a bit of black yarn split to 2 ply to create the nose holes and st over the lips. Don't feel constrained, use x's or straight lines, or mix it up like I do. For the nose I just make 2 stitches a bit wider at the bottom of the nose.

Split the darker brown color to 2ply and create little lines going towards the eyes to give a dehydrated look. Remember you are the artist. Change up the lines a bit so it isn't too uniform.

Hair, I cut black yarn lengths of about 10" to create the hair. Just create an outer hair line of black, you will be pulling the hair into a ponytail on top so it just needs the edges lined.

If you want your Shrunken head to hang from your rear view mirror attach black yarn to center point on top of head that keeps head balanced best, ch approximately 55 and sl st back to head where you attached. Take tail ends of yarn and tie tightly, use these ends of yarn to tie pony tail on top of head. If that seems to complicated, just tie the ends tightly and pull up pony tail and use a different bit of yarn to tie off.

Want your Shrunken head to be a keychain? Use same technique as above for attaching ch, just make fewer chs. You can drop a ring on this and fasten off as before.

I would love to see your shrunken heads! Share your work on Mommy Made Crochet Facebook

Bobble or Scallop Towel Top *crochet pattern

Event season is coming and everyone always asks if I have any towels...well, I certainly do!

I used to cut the towels in half, sew the cut ends with a sewing machine then stitch with a needle to create the area where I would begin a top.  THAT was before.  For the past few years I have been in love with just keeping them folded and crocheting directly into the towel!  It sounds scarier than it is, I promise.

Materials:

 steel crochet hook size 1 (2,75mm)
G Hook
WW yarn of your choice, I used old Red Heart Super Saver in Gold
3/4"-1 1/8 " button I buy them in sets of 2 for  $0.88 at Walmart
Kitchen Towel of your choosing- I used seasonal towels from Walmart @ $0.88 a piece for pattern
Yarn needle

Abbreviations:

yo: yarn over
fo: finish off
sk: skip
ch: chain
sl st: slip stitch
sc: single crochet
hdc: half double crochet
dc: double crochet

Squatch - a Bigfoot pattern available on etsy

****UPDATE****

SQUATCH PATTERN IS AVAILABLE NOW in my Etsy shop

After visiting the Pacific Northwest  I knew this guy needed to be made.
I spent a good chunk of my childhood in Seattle where everyone seemed to have a Bigfoot story!
Bigfoot is to the Pacific Northwest what sourdough is to San Fransisco or BBQ is to Memphis, you just know it's known for it ;)
the pattern is currently out to 3 testers and I am making a few more for my kids so I hope this pattern will be released this week!

Amazing Crochet Bowl - crochet pattern

I've seen a few bowls people have crocheted and I wanted to give it a try myself!
After some brainstorming with my marmie I think I've come up with a decent design :)

 You need an intermediate level of crochet experience or a very ambitious beginner :) you will be working in continuous rounds over clothesline to give some stiffness and form to your bowl.  I find it best to mark my rounds with a scrap of yarn to keep track of the rounds.

All supplies except needle

Materials

* Ww yarn of your choice (I used Caron Simply Soft Stripes "the Keys" color and "pink camo" is also pictured)
* H Hook
* clothesline (mine is from Walmart for $1.97 and is acrylic/nylon)
* lighter- I used to keep the end of the clothesline from fraying
* Scissors- must be able to cut clothesline
* needle for weaving ends

Abbreviations

* Mr: magic ring
* ch : chain
* sl st : slip stitch
* beg : beginning
* sc : single crochet
* y.o. : yarn over
* f.o. : finish off

You may do whatever you like with your completed Amazing Crochet Bowl, you can sell them, use them for Pocket change and keys or even give it as a gift!  I only ask that you please not claim this pattern as your own, I worked hard to design my Amazing Crochet Bowl:)

Directions:

*Guage isn't too important, but tension is. Be sure to crochet snug so the bowl holds it shape.

1: Mr 10sc (10)

2: begin to crochet over clothesline and continue through all rounds - 2sc (20)

Pull clothesline as close as you can to 1st sc of round without pulling it out

4: *sc2, 2sc* (40)

5: *sc3, 2sc* (50)

6: sc (50)

7: *sc9, 2sc* (55)

* the 2 sc at beginning of each round are just to stagger the increases-don't sweat it!*

8: sc2, place marker after sc2 then: *sc10, 2sc* (60)

9: sc2, place marker after sc2 then: *sc11, 2sc* (65)

10: sc2, place marker after sc2 then: *sc12, 2sc* (70)

11: sc2, place marker after sc2 then: *sc13, 2sc* (75)

12: sc (75)

13: sc (75) sl st to next st. If you need to hide the end of the clothesline use the tail of yarn and whip stitch to cover it. I used a lighter to keep ends of clothesline from fraying.  ***Ask your parents for help with lighter if you are under age 18, accidents happen to the best of us! ***

Finishing:

This pattern should easily translate to larger or smaller bowls if you so desire! Weave in ends and enjoy!

Super Bulky Baby Bear

My beautiful niece is pregnant after a tubal 5 years ago...not just pregnant...identical twin girls! I had to get crocheting for these new little sweeties!
I started with a great baby socks pattern from Mamma That Makes.  These are fabulous little booties/socks with sizes down to 26-28wk.  I whipped up 10 pairs in 32 week size, twins tend to be a bit smaller ;)

Mamma That Makes: fabulous pattern!
My bff found some yarn on clearance and picked some out for me, among the yarns were a couple Bernat Baby Blanket...so soft!  I love these soft yarns for babies :)  So I started immediately on a teddy pattern to use Bernat Baby Blanket super bulky yarn. Each Super Bulky Baby Bear took less than 1 skein to complete project.

Close up of Bear face

Twin Teddies for two little sweet twins!

All my Bear parts before attaching

Finishing:

Attach the body parts in ways look good to you.  I sew the ends of arms and legs closed flat before attaching, but you can do however you prefer.

After attaching all the body parts it's time to get creative!  How do you want your bear to look, just a nose and eyes?  Or do you want to add more features?  I added 2 eyelashes to each eye for my bears.
